January 14th - 15th Storm:
Many Are Cold and More Than a Few Are Frozen
Tuesday, January 17, 2006
Our power went out 11:30PM Saturday night and was restored at around 10PM Monday. (Sunday night, the temperature dropped into the signle digits.) Why oh why is New York State considered suitable for human habitation during the months of January and February?
Barricade for downed line at the end of our street. (Turned out to be a phone line. We didn't know if it was phone or electrical 'til later. Nor did the people driving around the barricade, over the line.)
Tree down in our neighbor's yard:
Old Farm Road South (the other side of our block); trees and powerlines down:
Tree and telephone pole cradled by power lines. Lake Street, Pleasantville, NY:
Bear Ridge Road hill, Pleasantville, NY, moments after it reopened. The tree that had fallen across the road sawed up by the side.:
Heading out to lunch in Pleasantville 13 hours after the start of our blackout:
The Manhattan skyline just as we returned home for a very cold night.
This was taken at dusk, just after 5PM, Sunday 1/15/06. Our power went out at 11:30PM, Saturday night. Sunday night, the temperature went down into the single digits outside; to near-freezing inside. Because we have a woodstove (a very small woodstove) we were one of the few hold-outs in the neighborhood.
