GRIFFIN STEPS IN IT AGAIN
NASA chief: U.S. may end flights with Russians, AP
"NASA's top official said today that the future of U.S participation in Russian space flights is in doubt due to a congressional measure that aims to punish Moscow for its cooperation with Iran."
Editor's note:Who is advising Griffin on this issue? The last time I checked Congress was looking forward to revising the INA to help NASA.
Keith, until Congress does revise The Iran Non-proliferation Agreement (INA), it is the law of the land and Griffin would be in violation of it if he tried to use Russian space flights. Griffin's back is against the wall, don't criticize him.
Blame Congress for not fixing it sooner.
Blame Rohrbacher for writing the problem provisions in the first place.
Griffin had no part in putting us in this Hobson's choice of choosing weakness on weapons of mass destruction technology proliferation to Iran or the Space Station. The fault for this situation lies squarely at the feet of Representative Dana Rohrbacher.

"Griffin's back is against the wall, don't criticize him."
Excuse me, but I will criticize Griffin when I see fit to do so.
People are trying to help him and he is critical of their efforts to do so. Going to Russia and trying to scare the Russians by pinning it all on Congress has had one effect: to annoy Congress.

If you critictize someone for following the law then you look pretty dumb.
I have not seen any statement by Griffin critical of congress, though he should be screaming about the situation at every press conference. CONGRESS PUT HIM IN THIS SITUATION, IN PARTICULAR ROHRBACHER. The US has been totally dependent the Russians for acess to the station for TWO YEARS.
Was the congress under the insane notion that by some miracle the shuttle would resume flight and work perfectly for the next 5 years, without accident or major delay?
Why are they taking their sweet time?
I am also sure other situations will come up which an exchage of funds with the Russians will be the cheapest solution to some problem on the station, but they are also illegal.
Why is no one crtitical of Rohrbacher for not demanding the Space station be excluded from the Iran NonProliferation Agreement 5 years ago?
He not only didn't exclude it, he specifically included it. To put a project we have spent decades working on and spent over 30 billion dollars on at the mercy of another government is insane and dumb. Cooperation is one thing but rewarding the Russians with exclusive use of OUR space station BECAUSE they sold Nuclear technology to Iran is insane.
It is not a favor for congress to change the INA, they wrote it. They should have forseen this type of situation before the passed it. If I put a gun to your head it is not a favor to remove it. Congress made a huge mistake with the INA they put the gun to NASA's Head not Russia's or Iran's.
Keith, what if the majority of congress is more worried about looking weak on Iran than they are about the space station?
